This ambitious post-war American epic opens with a mesmerizing long sequence that’s sure to last longer than the 3:35 hour running time. The 70mm format suits the setting while making the film visually stunning with reckless camerawork and stunning cinematography.

The script delivers interesting characters – although the supporting characters are purely cosmetic – that are complimented by great performances from Brody and Pearce

The problem here is in the final hour, as the writers chose to insert unrevealed subplots that prevent the film from properly wrapping up, leaving a bitter feeling of incompleteness and preventing this monumental project from achieving what it was intended to achieve.
