A grieving therapist begins to tell his clients exactly what he thinks

Eventually, Goldstein spoke to Ford and sold him the role

When Brett Goldstein, Jason Segel and Bill Lawrence were asked how they got Harrison Ford to be on the show, Segel said that Goldstein initially wanted a “Harrison Ford type” and would audition people who were similar to Ford. Segel told Goldstein that they should bring it to Ford first, thinking he would turn it down immediately, but at least other people would hear that Harrison Ford had brought the project, generating interest from other notable actors.

Goldstein still doesn’t understand what he did to convince him, but he was thrilled nonetheless… I watched the first two episodes and found them compelling.

I also respect the way he’s presented – he’s not doing something that other therapists are supposed to do, and that’s pretty clear

Part of the reason is that I found there to be something real, based on a therapist who needs therapy and wants to reach out to his patients to unexpectedly overcome his own problems. It hasn’t gotten into the silly situations of other shows like Loot, but it’s still early in the series and I’ll keep watching it.

The show isn’t for everyone

That being said, I enjoy the depth of the characters, who don’t seem like caricatures; they’re people I’m interested in getting to know.
