Scenario

Ailing filmmaker Leonard Fife (Richard Gere) is fiery but aware of his age and illness. He wants to tell his life story unfiltered before it’s too late. As an acclaimed documentary filmmaker, he has much to be proud of, but his involvement in the Vietnam War and past relationships hold sensitive truths. Ultimately, he decides to reveal the truth and lies about his life and career, so he sits down for a long, filmed interview with his former student Malcolm (Michael Imperioli) and candidly tells stories about his younger self (Jacob Elordi) in the turbulent 1960s. and beyond. At Leonard’s insistence, his wife and indispensable partner Emma (Uma Thurman) listens to everything. Leonard’s successes are juxtaposed with his failures – lies versus facts – and as the man has completely purged himself of myth, Leonard must grapple with what remains.
