A Chinese woman lives in silence, celebrating the prosperous Belle Époque with song and dance. The female protagonist does not have a single line of dialogue throughout the film.

It is a very abstract film, like a pseudo-documentary, with director Jia Zhangke’s own style

It is like a mixture of Chinese golden songs, mixed with a sense of ghosts and animals (like the secondary editing of Jia Zhangke’s film), depicting the changes in China in the 21st century and the changes in the lives of a generation. The overall feeling is like that of a silent film, and the protagonist does not even have any dialogue!

What a true genius!

Director Jia Zhangke used the materials he filmed to create such a powerful work! Although the film does not have a single line of dialogue, it richly expresses the inner emotions of the female protagonist Qiaoqiao.

Jia Zhangke is still so strong!

Although the picture quality is very old (after all, it is the material), the cinematography is very good, so the pictures expressed are not only rustic, but also have a sense of strangeness of the dream core, and are familiar with the style of county literature.
