There’s a lot to like about Black Pigeons once you get past the fact that it’s pretty implausible! Keira Knightley plays the wife of the British Defense Secretary, who is actually a trained assassin working for a shadowy organization (yeah, yeah, she’d never pass the test, I know!).

The plot introduces us to some of her colleagues, among whom there are motley characters, but who are actually very funny, with a reference to Guy Ritchie

There is a hidden element of homosexuality in her co-star Ben Whishaw, who plays a homosexual who was groomed by his father, who was also a murderer. This gave Whishaw the opportunity to play a rather subtle, painful role in a rather sympathetic way, but it reminds me why my wife and I loved Korean and Japanese dramas where there is no overt depiction of sex.

The plot unfolds at a good pace, and Black Pigeons has some great caricatures in the mixed bag of killers

The plot includes a war of gangs, the CIA and an international incident that threatened a major quarrel between China, Great Britain and the United States. All in all, despite the fact that it’s really quite implausible, it’s an enjoyable watch, and Knightley does a convincing job of playing a rather frightening girl who is quite believable in her role.
